We are looking for a full-time experienced Medical Communications writer to join our communications and copywriting collective. Thinking about a new role? Want to do high-quality work and make a difference? Fancy joining a vibrant team who do things a bit differently? Then RubyDuke might just be where your tribe has been hanging out!

What do we do at RubyDuke? We are all about solving problems, telling stories and doing good. We work directly with communication agencies to bring a fresh perspective to the communication problems that their clients are experiencing, and come up with innovative ways of solving them. We are writers, so everything we do is wrapped up in communication. We craft compelling stories to give those communications the best chance of succeeding in their purpose. And we want to create positive change wherever and however we can.

Which is why at RubyDuke, everyone gets involved in ‘Doing Good’ projects. We want to do our best to improve the world around us and to give back in any way we can. We are supporting some fantastic charities to be able to tell their story in their way, and to secure funding for their next big project. We also run our office (it’s in leafy Lane End, Buckinghamshire in a converted Church) as ethically as we can. We have twinned our toilet and our taps to support access to sanitary water across the world and we keep our basics and cleaning products stocked up via our local zero-waste shop.

By joining our RubyDuke team, you will become part of this innovating copywriting collective who are doing things differently. We are agile so move quickly, we are energetic so are always on the ball and we are a team so we do these things together.

Have we piqued your interest? We hope so. If we have, this is what we are looking for in a new team member:

Experience working in a Medical Communications agency and a desire to drive the RubyDuke Med Comms offering. The role will be client facing so the ability to communicate with clients clearly, concisely and passionately is expected. A PhD or Masters is also preferred.

Excited about developing high quality content across a range of communications such as meetings-related materials (e.g. slides, abstracts, consensus and steering committee documents), marketing communications (e.g. product monographs, newsletters) and journal manuscripts. Alongside a thorough knowledge of good publications practices, ensuring that medical copy is scientifically accurate, clear and appealing to the target audience will be paramount. You will be able to ensure that medical copy is produced in accordance with the client's preferred style and that it meets the communication objectives.

Provision of editorial support for medical and scientific communications. This would involve updating speaker slide decks in line with editorial instructions, adapting manuscripts to match journal requirements, preparing submission packs for manuscript submission and checking references to ensure their accuracy and validity.

Fully competent and comfortable with the ABPI code of practice, and confident in developing content that is scientifically accurate and compliant. As well as developing content, you will need to be familiar and experienced in developing reference packs.

Proficient with Promomats including upload, linking and annotating.

Sometimes, we are requested to attend Scientific Meetings (or we were pre-COVID at least!). If you would like the opportunity to attend conferences, roundtable meetings and workshops to provide on-site support and to gather information for communication outputs, then the opportunity to do so is definitely available.

A competent project manager who is able to prioritise workload, understand and appreciate client requirements and manage projects efficiently.

The ability, and more importantly, the desire to work as part of a team. We are a close-knit bunch, and are seeking someone to join the team who is a competent leader and who wants to foster our team spirit.

In terms of salary, this is dependent on experience (both in and out of medical communications), qualifications, and other skills, meaning that the salary banding is quite broad for this role. The salary on offer is £40K - £70K.

In addition, there is no expectation of overtime/long hours including flexible working and the ability to work from home, pension,  Christmas shutdown (on top of annual leave allowance), regular team fun days (it's so much more than team building!), a chance to work on a Doing Good Project for at least 1 day a month (often more!), group coaching and access to a monthly subscription service of your choosing.

The months and years to come are guaranteed to be exciting ones for us. The voyage starts now – want in?
